Ganga Hospital is located in Coimbatore, one of the premier cities in Tamilnadu, India. The health care industry in Coimbatore has witnessed tremendous growth in the last decade. The city is an abode to several futuristic hospitals offering world class medical treatment. Ganga Hospital is one such institution that was started in 1978 by Dr. J. G. Shanmuganathan & Mrs. Kanakavalli Shanmuganathan as a 17 bedded hospital. In 1990, the Shanmuganathan Kanakavalli Speciality Centre was started by Dr. S. Raja Sabapathy and Dr. S. Rajasekaran after their training abroad, in honour of their parents.
The thrust was in introducing newer techniques in various fields of Trauma, Spinal Surgery, Hand and Microsurgery that recognised the hospital as a premier institute for the reconstruction of severly injured limbs, replantation of completely amputated parts, advanced skeletal fixation and treatment of severe spinal deformities. The hospital also stands as the first Micro surgical Unit to be established in this part of the country.
In 2006, Ganga Hospital expanded as a 420 bedded hospital. In 2009, the Department of Plastic Surgery, Hand & Microsurgery, Facio Maxillary Surgery and Burns had an outpatient strength of 77476 with 6655 surgeries performed.
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery including Trauma and Accident Surgery, Spine Surgery, Joint Replacements, Paediatric Orthopaedics, Shoulder Surgery, Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy performed 9191 surgeries and 74077 outpatients.
This Institute is a super speciality hospital dealing with Trauma care, Orthopaedics, Plastic, Hand & Microsurgery with highly specialised units for Neurosurgery, Spine, Maxillofacial surgery, and Burns. It has 420 beds and 17 operation theatres, a 10- bed Intensive Trauma Care Unit.
The Hospital has an in-house Blood Bank, Laboratory services, MRI, CT Scan facilities and a physiotherapy unit.
This 135 bedded hospital houses the specialities of Obstetrics, Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Neonatology. Started in June 2007, the Obstetrics & Gynecology Department, headed by Dr. Suma Natrajan, the Pediatrics Department with Dr. Ramani & Dr Selvaraj as Consultants.
